The Syrian Constitutional Committee discusses 4 important principles.

The Syrian Constitutional Committee in its 6th round, which has continued since last Monday, is discussing 4 principles of great importance, after they were put forward by the 3 delegations that make up the committee, including principles related to the Syrian army and security forces.

Sources of the Syrian Documentation Center reported that on the first day of the constitutional committee’s discussions, the delegation of the Syrian state put forward a principle related to the sovereignty of the state, within a proposal that included 6 points related to external interference and non-fragmentation, the state’s right to extend its authority over its entire territory and the questioning if he deals with external parties, in addition to the need to extend their control over natural resources, reject any separatist projects inside the country, support international peace and security, and be proud of the Arab affiliation.

The sources indicated that the proposal put forward by the delegation of the Syrian state was transferred to the opposition delegation about an hour before the start of the first meeting of the committee.

On the 2nd day, the opposition delegation presented another constitutional principle related to the army, the armed forces and the security services long discussions took place about their work in line with constitutional reform, as the sources indicated that this file was moved to next Friday in order to formulate a compromise formula between the parties.

The sources added that the 3rd principle that was put forward by the civil society delegation and discussed today came under the title “The Rule of Law” provided that the 4th principle will be presented on the last days of the tour tomorrow by the delegation of the Syrian state related to terrorism provided that next Friday the final consensus version of the proposed four principles will be discussed.

The recent meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee indicate that there is consensus among the delegations forming the committee, amid expectations that this round will produce actual results, unlike previous rounds that were dominated by clear obstacles by the delegation of the Syrian opposition and the countries supporting it.

It’s also scheduled that at the end of the current 6th round, the date of the next 2 rounds of meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee will be set, after an agreement between the 3 delegations and the UN envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen knowing that the next 2 rounds are likely to take place before the end of this year.
