Turkish sources talk about Ankara’s conditions for withdrawing from Syria.
The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet quoted unnamed sources as saying the main Turkish conditions for the exit of its military forces from Syria.
The sources denied that the Turkish side spoke during the recent “Astana” meetings about an exit from the Syrian territories with the first opportunity to do so, noting that “Ankara” clearly communicates its conditions in the meetings related to Syria to the parties concerned with the file.
According to the sources, the Turkish conditions are the consensus between the Syrian parties on a new constitution through the Constitutional Committee under the supervision of the UN, the establishment of a new electoral system, the formation of a new government after the elections, and the elimination of organizations that Turkey considers “terrorist” and says that it threatens its security and territorial integrity at the borders of the 2 countries, in reference to the “SDF” and the Kurdish factions in northern Syria.
The newspaper’s sources considered that the presence of Turkish forces in Syria is due to confront the “terrorist” organizations, which the Turkish government sees as a threat to its territorial integrity.
The Turkish Parliament had previously granted a new mandate on October 26 to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in order to maintain the military presence in Syria and Iraq for 2 additional years, while the Syrian government considers the Turkish presence on its territory illegal and a violation of laws international and Syrian sovereignty.
