Ankara factions continue to cut olive trees from the lands of the people of “Afrin” north of Aleppo.

The Turkish factions continue to cut down olive trees in the area of “Afrin” under their control north of Aleppo, causing great damage to large areas of agricultural land, whose trees are being cut down in order to trade in firewood.

The sources reported that Ankara militants deliberately cut down about 85 olive trees on the road to the village of “Jarna” in “Sharran” district in the “Afrin” countryside, without heeding the appeals of their owners who depend on the crops of these trees as a basic income for living.

The sources pointed out that the militants attacked the owner of one of the lands, which includes about 25 olive trees, when he tried to resist them, after which the militants expelled the civilian from his land and completely cut down the trees in it, down to their trunks.

During the past week, the militants had deliberately raided large areas of olive lands within the villages of “Kafr Nabo”, “Burj Haidar” and “Kafr Janna” in Sharan district, where 770 olive trees were cut down from those lands after the owners were expelled from them.

The cutting down of olive trees by Ankara’s militants is taking advantage of the reality of the high prices of fuel and the need of the people within the areas under their control to secure means of heating, which prompts the militants to cut down the old trees in order to trade in their firewood and impose their high prices on it.

The number of olive trees that were seized by the militants of Ankara during the last 3 months is estimated at about 30000, most of them from the lands scattered within “Afrin” north of Aleppo, at a time when the number of trees stolen since the beginning of this year only approached the threshold of 1000 trees.
