Jordan thwarts an attempt to smuggle drugs from Syria.

Yesterday, the Jordanian forces announced that they had thwarted a new drug smuggling attempt coming from Syria, and confiscated more than a million Captagon pills and 35 weed packets.

A statement by the Jordanian army command stated that the northern military region, in coordination with the Military Security Directorate and the Anti-Narcotics Department, attempted to smuggle a large shipment of drugs coming from Syrian territory towards Jordan.

According to the statement, the Jordanian army applied the rules of engagement, which led to the escape of the smugglers, while after searching the area, 1021850 Captagon pills, 35 packets of weed and a few weapons and quantities of ammunition were found in the area, where the confiscations were transferred to the competent authorities.

In a speech a few days ago, King Abdullah II of Jordan said that drug smuggling from Syria is managed by organized parties, adding that it constitutes a threat to national security, stressing the importance of protecting borders and confronting smuggling attempts, and dealing with them firmly and forcefully.

The sources reported that the “Maghawir al-Thawra” faction, which operates in the vicinity of the American base in “al-Tanf”, is working in coordination with the armed “anti-terror” faction in Al-Suwayda, to organize the transfer of Captagon and weed shipments towards Jordan to finance itself from its revenues.

The Jordanian army had announced that during the year 2021 it had thwarted 361 smuggling attempts from Syria, during which it seized 15.5 million narcotic pills, 760 kilograms of weed and 2 kilograms of heroin.
